What's
been happening in 2006 & 2007?
| Alot. After moving
to Western Massachusetts, Elliott Burke set out to pursue freelance
theatre full time. Since May of 2005 he's been steadily busy composing
music, writing, doing a heck of a lot of research and enjoying fresh
ice cream from the local dairy bars. Unfortunately, theater in W. MA.
is fairly comatose. Except for a flurrilous burst of festival
activities through the summer (which seems to bring in professional
crews from outlying cities like Boston & New York rather than using
locals), the major theaters here pretty much flatline across the
seasonal cycle. What to do? With talent and skill in writing, research,
music composing and theatre production, why not start your own theatre
company? That's just what he did. In March of 2006 he formed Ishah 'El
theatre arts &
received 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization status. He began
recruiting. He began plotting. He began fundraising. Things moved along
slowly as he worked to refine his vision and plot further how to make
it come alive. Seasons came and went. In April of 2007 he gathered a
small handful of people together to work on a short radio play excerpt
from Dorothy L. Sayers' "The Man Born
to be King" radio play cycle on the life of Jesus of Nazareth.
